YARRA GLEN ADVENTURE PLAYGROUND

Public BBQ

Nestled in Yarra Glen, this sprawling adventure playground centres around an impressive wooden fortress that would make medieval architects weep with envy. The enormous play area caters brilliantly to the 5-12 crowd, though weekends transform the place into something resembling a very cheerful refugee camp. The BBQ facilities sit strategically positioned near picnic tables, allowing parents to monitor both sausages and offspring simultaneously. Thoughtful touches include a separate gated area for toddlers (preventing the inevitable trampling incidents), basketball courts for energy disposal, and a footy oval where dreams of AFL stardom flourish. Shade sails provide blessed relief from the Australian sun, while toilets and water fountains handle the practicalities. Parking exists, though weekend arrivals might find themselves hiking from neighbouring postcodes.
